the opening weekend of the new zealand international film festival in auckland has just passed, so if you're still not sure which films to secure your tickets to, now is the time to make some snappy decisions and schedule in those must-sees! as a mid-winter highlight for us each year, we had our picks chosen weeks ago, and wanted to share our top two with you:

yves saint laurent
at the top of the list is the biopic of the legendary fashion designer saint laurent. the film spans 20 years, from sain laurent's arrival at dior, a fashion house he would go on to direct when barely 21 years old, to the founding of his own enduring YSL label. the promises this intimate film is a story of love, passion, creativity, perfectionism, and an artist who, in transforming fashion – and the promotion of it – left his mark on the 20th century. a must-see for fashion lovers.

dior and i
it's only been two years since raf simons took up the post of artistic director at christian dior, when he was immediately tasked with turning around a new collection for the power fashion house in just eight weeks. this behind-the-scenes documentary follows the creation of that very collection from concept to catwalk, when all eyes were on simons to deliver something that would not only please dior loyalists but allow him to make his mark on the world of haute couture and demonstrate his eye for the future.

welcome to the weekend! time to enjoy some rest, relaxation or maybe a little bit of extra curricular fun. here's just a quick round up of what we have planned for day 6 and 7 of the week. see you on the other side!

drink
coffee lovers: exciting news for you. we're very close to the launch of atomic coffee roasters' first ever batch of micro-lot coffee... aptly named #001. micro-lot coffee is essentially one of the most pure and premium you can get. from a very small lot on a single farm that has been set aside from other coffee because it is far superior. each micro-lot coffee has its own story and #001 is no different... originating from costa rica, the fully washed caturra variety have been lovingly grown and nurtured by hector bonillo in the don mayo beneficio lot. just 100 bags are going to be available for sale from next friday 18 july.

nothing helps the dull, dark mood winter brings like adding some colour to your space. when we need a little cheering up or just something new and pretty to look at we head to collected at bloc. owner and curator leeann yare is most definitely no stranger to a splash of colour and each visit to her store is a feast for the eyes. right now we're loving her selection of blacklist studio prints and wall planters. don't forget to check out our latest #mymoochistyle photoshoot for a sneak peek into leeann's home and daily wardrobe go-tos!

wear
in black, the state coat has been our everday staple of the season. it's flattering dropped shoulder silhouette and simple curved hem make it so wearable for work or play and its medium weight means you can throw it over your favourite sweater on colder days simply paired with a tee. it's been so loved by our moochi girls and customers alike that we've delivered a navy blue version this week. get yours here.

eat
on thursday we braved the cold to celebrate the launch of late night dining at mexico ponsonby. the popular, contemporary mexican restaurant will now serve their full menu, which includes fresh and vibrant tacos, fried chicken and quesadillas, till late from thursday through saturday. and of course offer their full range of liquors and beverages... including the just-launched 1800 coconut tequila. although take it from us, you may want to take it easy on the coconut margaritas!

leeann yare, interior stylist, writer, owner and curator of collected, international pilot, and mum shows us how she styles moochi into her busy lifestyle. whether she is jetting off overseas (in one of the driver's seats!), buying for her interiors store, collected -  an inspiration of everything 'interiors' that you should know about  - or taking her kids to weekend sport, she likes her wardrobe to work for her.

"i'm a jeans girl at heart, these days they can be worn almost anywhere and anytime, give your denim a slightly more upmarket look with a silk top and a pair of cute ankle boots. leeann wears long sleeve shell tee in spotted silk with high-top skinny jeans, lethal boots and yes necklace"

MY PERSONAL STYLE IS... easy, effortless, practical and multi-purpose! i'm a working mum of two boys, and i travel a lot, so whatever i wear has to be able to change up from casual to dressy easily, with a quick shoe swap, or adding a blazer or some jewellery.  pretty much everything i own can be worn with havaianas or chucks, or dressed up with a pair of boots or heels, and most of my wardrobe can be layered so it works for any season.

"my wardrobe is all about multi tasking, and this shirt dress is a great addition. over jeans with my chucks for a casual look, or with tights and heels for going out. and the best thing is it doesn't crush, it comes out of my suitcase ready to wear!"

leeann wears cusp shirt dress with high-top skinny jeans and yes necklace

"merino is my winter go-to. it's soft and warm but without the bulk, and I'm all over bright tangerine at the moment."

leeann wears high top skinny jeans with step sweat in bright orange, trick hat and orange plain clutch

RIGHT NOW I'M WORKING ON... finishing my second book rooms to love which i've written together with photographer larnie nicolson, it's full of inspirational rooms showcasing a host of different styles, with plenty of tips and tricks on how to create your own personality filled home. we have just finished several final proofing sessions and it's been sent off to the printers, phew!

"i cannot go past a versatile black dress, and the jes dress is all that and more. with a pair of havaianas in summer, or tights and chucks in winter, it's a great all rounder"

leeann wears jes dress with rev blazer and fob chain in gold

THIS WINTER I'M WEARING... comfortable stretch skinny jeans, with lots of black and layered merino for warmth, gumboots and a raincoat for saturday rugby, and i'm adding to my collection of cute beanies and hats. for something a bit more glam i've got a couple of go-to black dresses that can be worn daytime with chucks and merino, or dressed up for dinner out or an event with heels and a jacket.

"with the boys playing rugby every saturday, and auckland's unpredictable weather, a coat and gumboots are a must! the raincape is practical and cool, plus it rolls up super small if I'm packing a suitcase"

leeann wears high top skinny jeans with step sweat in bright orange and the raincape

I CAN'T WAIT FOR SPRING TO WEAR... more colour and print. i'm a huge fan of black, but love to add a few signature pieces in an interesting pattern or bold colour and spring always seems a great season to do this.

"this top is perfect for layering, a sleeveless dress turns into an all year option with this added top layer, and it has just the right amount of bling"

leeann wears mirage maxi, long sleeve airy tee and yes necklace

AT THE MOMENT I'M LOVING... winter nesting, and getting our home in order! i'm working my way through a long list of my own decluttering and styling challenges, including all the kitchen cupboards, the kids drawers and wardrobes, my own wardrobe, and now i'm moving onto the linen cupboard. i have given a lot of things away, donated a bunch of stuff to charity, and i am also going to arrange a combined stylists yard sale soon, one person's trash is always someone else's treasure!

raw 'super skin' brownies by bonnie delicious

our 'design pod' (head office) in ponsonby has had a bit of makeover over the last few months, giving us a whole new level below our former one-level office space and so much more room for the team to spread their wings! now that we are on split levels it sometimes feels like we don't get to see as much of each other as we did on a daily basis so it's always nice to gather in the shared 'mooching' areas for special occasions like birthdays and renovation-end celebration bubbles.

there's nothing we love more at team get-togethers than to indulge in some sweet treats - lucky thing we have a few expert bakers among us to keep us stocked up! lately, with winter wellbeing in mind, we've been keeping things healthy with gluten-free and refined sugar free treats that are amazingly delicious yet good for us too. our current fave is this raw 'super skin' brownies by bonnie delicious

the best thing about these brownies (apart from the flavour!) is that they're packed with antioxidants and are great for your skin. according to the bonnie delicious blog, "raw cacao powder is an excellent source of antioxidants and magnesium, maca powder is amazing for energy and supports healthy hormone levels - perfect for those pesky hormonal breakouts. chia, nuts and seeds all add healthy fats, zinc and omegas. most of the nuts and seeds are soaked first to maximize your bodies absorption of all their nutrients and make it easier on your digestion."

raw 'super skin' brownies

3/4 cup sunflower seeds - soaked overnight and rinsed well
1/2 pumpkin seeds - soaked overnight and rinsed well
1/2 cup hazelnuts - soaked overnight and rinsed well
1/2 cup walnuts - soaked overnight and rinsed well
1 cup dates - preferably medjool
4 tbsp raw cacao powder
2 tbsp chia seeds
1 tbsp black sesame seeds (or regular)
4 tsp maca powder
1 tsp vanilla
pinch nutmeg
pinch cinnamon
pinch sea salt
1 1/2 tbsp psyllium powder

roll the sunflower seeds, hazelnuts and walnuts into a towel and dry as much as possible. getting rid of the excess moisture will help the brownies set.

place the dates and half of your sunflower seeds, walnuts and hazelnuts into a food processor. blitz until the dates are a rough puree. you made need to scrape down the sides of processor bowl a few times.

add all the remaining ingredients and process really well. you want the mix to be as fine as possible (or as fine as you like it). refer to pictures above for the consistency. you'll need to scrape down the sides of processor bowl a few times and be patient. it's a thick mixture so will take a little while to blitz it all.

press the completed brownie mix firmly into a slice or cake tin lined with baking paper. use the back of a spoon to smooth the surface. the mixture is very thick so this might take a few minutes. depending on the size of your tin you made not need to whole tin. i made my brownies about 2 cm thick.

place into a freezer for at least 2 hours to set. cut and enjoy.

with cold temperatures and stormy weather suddenly around every turn, we’re dreaming of a mid-winter escape to somewhere… warmer. after a quick whip around the moochi team it was clear that this had been an idea on the minds of most of us! so we’ve rounded up a quick hit list of places we’d rather be this week.

into indonesia
the home of bintang, beaches and ‘bagus’ (‘good’), we’re ready to shed the winter layers and find our inner surf goddess at one of bali’s world-class surf breaks, or relax poolside in one of ubud’s treetop villas. at the top of our list of things to do at this dream destination is a visit to spring spa, the newly opening indonesian outpost of the popular establishment that began in queenstown in 2012. because what are holidays for if not some head-to-toe pampering in an amazingsetting?

for the more adventurous, another spot we’re keen to make our temporary home is
uluwatu surf villas. built atop the cliffs overlooking the incoming sets, this place looks like the perfect hideaway for a surf retreat. even if we can’t quite get there this week, we’re loving daydreaming through their instagram feed

what to take: in this island paradise setting we wouldn't be without our fluid dress for throwing over our swimwear, chain slides for slipping on to hit the street stalls and chain bag for carrying all our small essentials.

world cup fever
we can’t ignore that much of the world's attention is firmly directed at brazil, where the football world cup now in full swing. but it's made us wonder... what else is happening in the famous city of rio de janeiro and how soon can we get there to enjoy it ourselves?! our unaminous decision was that the first thing we would do once landed would be to hit the beach. beach! remember sun, surf and fresh sea air? you'll find us soaking it all up on ipanema beach with a caipirinha in hand...

we'd also love to take a walk through the picturesque pargue lage. this beautiful park, at the base of floresta da tijuca, is about 1km from jardim bbotânico. it has English-style gardens, little lakes and a mansion that houses the escola de artes visuais (school of visual arts), which hosts free art exhibitions and occasional performances.

what to take: for stepping out in rio, we'd be taking along our wrapt heels and the perfect little black party dress, the web dress.

closer to home
while it may not be as warm as bali or brazil, situated a mere few hours drive from the hustle and bustle of auckland, we're craving a luxury staycation a bit closer to home at the bay of island's 'boathouse' (after all, they must call it the 'winterless north' for a reason?!).

what to take: for snuggling up and watching the sunset we'd need our wild cardi and merino swag pants.

milly nolan is the director of mildred&co, new zealand's premiere gift store and wedding registry. lovingly-curated, mildred&co sells everything you could ever want for your home and beyond. from cake mixers to barbeques, bed linen to art work, each item is carefully selected for its high quality and beautiful design.

we chatted to milly about her style picks for the season and what she's loving right now.

my personal style is... pretty casual these days - especially during wedding season which can get rather physical wrapping and packing gifts, so comfort is key and less is definitely more. maybe you'd call it causal-chic? i tend to find a few favourites and then wear them to death. stripes are never far from my wardrobe.

this winter I love wearing... skinny jeans, chunky knits over buttoned-up shirts, a leather jacket and a big felt hat.

at the moment I´m loving... hibernating indoors with a glass of red wine (or two) and dark chocolate. there's no better combo.

on sunday morning you´ll find me... either snuggled up in bed or at yoga.
