glebe is one of sydney’s oldest suburbs, its residents are a mix of university students, academics, professionals and artists. it is renowned for so many reasons - its cafe culture, variety of restaurants, specialised bookshops, home furnishing shops, natural therapies, art galleries, heritage buildings and more...

an absolute must do on a saturday morning is the glebe markets! one of sydney’s most established and well known with an alternative character and style. full of curios, handmade jewellery and vintage treasures you will find yourself wandering the stalls for hours!

glebe's cafes are full of character and one our favs is the clipper cafe!! sitting at the city end of glebe point road and full of deliciousness, with an uber cool vibe and rustic yet nautical chic decor - this cafe is sure to please and la banette patisserie is right next door, yum!!

located in the inner sydney area, glebe has always had that lively inner city vibe. a recent visit from one the girls at moochi head office inspired us to share the secrets of this gorgeous little suburb!!

with mothers day creeping up on us this weekend we thought what better time to ask our fav mum and daughter pair a few questions about each other. our creative director kellie and her mum penny tell us their fav memories and moments together.

and check out that photo!! taken at kellies 21st... gotta love the 90’s!!

kellie

how does your mum inspire you?

my mum's greatest gift is her ability to just get on with it! even if she has never done something before, she does not procrastinate, she just dives in and works it out as she goes. she inspires me with her creativity in all areas of life. while i might have achieved in fashion my mum has achieved in lots of creative areas; food, interiors, fashion, and craft! she is the best knitter and i have never made it to the end of a scarf!

what is your fav memory of your mums wardrobe?

when i was a child my mum had fashion boutiques of her own and she had the best wardrobe, how i wish she had kept her clothes!!! what i remember most were her accessories. she had bangles, sweaters, scarves and shoes galore in every colour imaginable. mum was always in heels, even in the weekend, she had these black leather boots with western styling and multi bright colored stitching. they sound scary but were totally cool. the tragedy was that the last day i fit her shoes was when i was ten!!

how did your mum encourage you on your path to being a designer?

i think it was to always support me whatever i put my mind too. when i decided not to continue my uni degree and instead head to fashion school in wellington she was accepting and helped me get together an outfit befitting a budding designer!!

what is your fav childhood memory with your mum?

these would be in the kitchen, with her making something delicious or by the wardrobe for sure. i would just love watching her get ready for work or going out. the smells of her perfume and hairspray. it was the eighties!!!

what is your fav thing to do with mum now?

now it is a real treat to get a coffee together to really catch up. we have lots of part conversations but to get a real moment to share is rare and special.

tell us about the best advice your mum ever gave you.

hmmm this is too hard to choose just one...

- put your knickers on the outside of your tights to stop the crotch falling down around your knees!

- never go to bed with your makeup on

- fight for what's best for your kids 'cause no one else will care more

- always remember to say ' i love you', she never actually said this but she practices this everyday!

penny

how does kellie inspire you?

her constant vision for her business, no one knows how much it takes out of her more than me.

what is your fav memory of kellie’s style when she was growing up?

seeing her dressed up for her fashion school interview after spending everything i had on her outfit.

what are your favourite memories of kellie growing up?

watching her play tennis again after her bad back injury which left her struggling to move for 2 years as a teenager.

what trouble did kell get up too as a young girl?

she liked to push the boundaries, but she was never super naughty!!

what is your fav thing to do together now?

when we get time to have coffee together and talk. with her kids and moochi, there is not much time or energy.

what is the best advice kell ever gave you?

she said i had to try wearing harem style pants and now i wear them all the time! they are so comfortable and i feel modern in them with my moochi tops and trainers. i only ever wear moochi, it's not just for the young girls you know!!

on saturday we meet up with our new neighbour and friend rob poll to take some non traditional photographs of my children.  i have for ages wanted to shoot the kids but i did not want them to be classic portraits that would date. a few years ago i saw some art that was so dark it was almost black but for a very subtle image that seemed to appear out of the darkness and i had thought, that is how i would like to capture morgan and hudson's silhouettes!

rob poll is an english fashion and still life photographer who has recently emigrated to nz with his lovely family. we met by chance at school on his children's first day and when i heard what he did i checked out his website, to understand what he was all about. it was then that i realised he was just the man for the job!

and i was right! he is a talented photographer with the technical skills to achieve my vision, despite my very loose brief! we had great fun shooting these and as you can see the images are incredible. rob is looking to cement himself in the nz photography industry and i thought it was well worth sharing my discovery with you all!

 check out his work.... http://robertpoll.com/index.html#id=fashion&num=1
