summer is so often a time of excess when it comes to style, when bold colours and prints go wild. while we do love to have fun with our brights during those warmer months, it's nice to step into the new season with a fresh start of sorts and that's when our latest colour crush comes in: the cool, calm and collected white.

sleek lines are the perfect accompaniement to white. keep your look crisp this season with minimal pieces and clean lines that maximise the contrast of this colour. an oversized blazer, such as the dapper jacket pictured above, is a great example of a statement white piece that can be incorporated into your existing wardrobe with ease. it's a great no-fuss option to elevate your work or weekend look and you can layer it over just about anything, from printed tees to sexy, contrasting camisoles like the black amour cami.

for maximum impact, wear it all at once - white-on-white is modern and chic with a grown-up edge when done well. try it with a mix of fabrics and textures for extra effect and interest. for instance, invest in a great pair of white denims like the killer jeans worn by our model and wear them paired with white knits for autumn or soft, draped fabrics like that of the sleeveless wrap shirt above made in a beautiful viscose voile. note: white is especially unforgiving when it comes to the quality of the fabric so be sure to choose the best one available!

lastly, acessorise with abandon! all-white outfits form the perfect canvas for your fav statement accessories, be it a gold chain, animal print shoe (like our espy flats!) or black felt hat. the finishing touches can make all the difference.

we've been loving following the street style photography feeds from the most recent fashion week celebrations in new york, london, milan and paris and one of the colours that has really stood out to us has been the bright bursts of orange seen on the stylish fashion set in these fabulous cities. in the midst of the cold, this colour gives such a great pop of colour and lifts these outfits to stand out in a crowd. these shots from jessie bush's blog we the people show orange in statement outerwear pieces, so we thought we'd experiment with how to incorporate this colour into your wardrobe now - check out the pics below.

style tip: if you love a little pop of colour, but don't like all over brights, try introducing a pop of colour with a sweater tied around the waist or with a top layered under a more subtle jacket. we think orange looks great paired with leather pieces and a black and white pallette to let it really stand out.

outfit 1: model wears drop tee (coming soon), step sweat, rev blazer, rev legs, main boot, studd clutch and ID necklace.
outfit 2: model wears seen top, cub shorts, quilted leather jacket (coming soon), snip boot and ID necklace.

it’s all in the detail

encompassing warm, toffee silks, monochromatic faux fur, black leather panelling,  sequin detailing and a signature cougar print, we’ve pulled out all the stops this season to ensure each piece is impeccably finished. from the sexy silhouette of the strappy lift maxi, to the strong lines of the rev jacket and cozy cover-up of the lead vest, the moochi autumn collection will have women channelling tony montana’s unforgiving ‘lady tiger’ and revelling in excess this autumn.

summer collection style how-to: tie dye and the crop top

style how-to: modern tie dye

if the recent spring/summer 2014 runway shows were anything to go by, minimal is out and maximal is in, with print and colour taking centre stage for the coming season. we’re loving the revival of tie-dye - the hyper-vivid, statement-print style that’s all about bold colours and casual chic. we think it’s the perfect accompaniment to sun-soaked bods and long summer days! seen on numerous celebs, off-duty models and style bloggers around the world, this is a trend to tap into now, right in time for summer.

with modern tie-dye, the key to achieving a stylish look that’s still fun and fit-for-summer is letting the print speak for itself. dial up the volume with one of the exclusive surf print dresses from our summer COLLECTION – the rush dress or the easy-fit, easier dress – or dress it up for night by pairing a tie-dye top like our popular surf tank with monochromatic separates for a more sophisticated look. our white killer jeans are a great no-fuss option for day or night, while the sheer black fabrication of our new ace pants and sport shorts make your pins sing!

style how to: the crop top

the crop top – it can be a scary thing! but we assure you it’s nothing to shy away from. for summer, the crop top can be your versatile go-to piece for layering with skirts and tanks to bring a new dynamic to your old favs. and once you’ve conquered the style that suits you, we promise it will be your new best friend. miranda from moochi refinery shows us how it’s done here with clever layering. the angle crop looks great layered over the top of a crisp white tee for a casual, off-duty look or pop of colour like our tidal dress, or under a mesh rise tank to create an eye-catching look with interesting lines.

remember it doesn’t have to be all about showing your midriff! just a sliver of skin done well can be elegant and sexy! we'd love to see how you style yours. send us your moochi angle crop style to local@moochi.co.nz

we're making a splash this summer with our summer collection 2013  'point break'!

taking inspiration from 90s surf culture and exploring high-tech sportswear, here we present a collection rife with energy and colour.

crisp whites are constrasted with high-vis, hyper-colours in neon orange and ocean blue, while strong, sporty lines rule supreme in a collection inspired by beachside brights and endless summers.

given the season, there is a real focus on playful dresses and relaxed singlets in an abundance of fresh brights and striking tye-dye, whilst monochromatic, more high-fashion pieces compliment the collection.

'point break' consists of high-tech fabrics made from the finest of materials, including mesh, tribal jacquard, white denim and neoprene.

fashion week round-up: hair trends for spring/summer 2014

the northern hemisphere spring/summer 2014 fashion week events have come to an end and as much as we loved seeing what some of the world’s leading designers have to offer for next season, we were also really interested to see how they styled their looks – after all, everyone knows there’s more to a complete outfit than just the garments!

our friends at redken have shared with us three key hair looks redken creative consultant guido styled for some of the biggest labels at new york fashion week, along with step-by-step directions on how to achieve them now.

a new wave: alexander wang spring/summer 2014

redken creative consultant guido fused glamour with grunge at the alexandar wang show this season to create a nonchalant, yet sexy runway look. by adding thickening lotions and texturizers to the hair, guido created volume without altering the model’s natural texture with teasing or heat styling.

“overall it’s a very sexy look this season. i wanted the hair to reflect the cool, low-key alexander wang type girl. I suppose there are equal parts grunge and glamour, in that the hair is voluminous, yet natural.”  says guido

create the look:

  1. 1. towel dry hair
  2. 2. create a messy centre part with finger
  3. 3. apply redken aerate 08 bodifying cream from root to ends, concentrating product on the roots
  4. 4. start drying hair with a diffuser to keep the natural waves
  5. 5. once the hair is 75% dry, allow the hair to dry naturally
  6. 6. add redken powder fresh 01 aerosol hair powder/dry shampoo to mid length and ends to give more texture
  7. 7. apply redken quick tease 15 backcombing finishing spray to mid length and ends to hold in the texture

style with: nevermind – our new-grunge inspired range has the perfect mix of easy-fit casuals to suit this effortless summer style.

the low pony: victoria beckham spring/summer 2014

guido muted the hair this season, in order to create a more homogenous runway look. the simplicity of the hair, which was pulled back into a low ponytail and finished with a basic black headband, emphasized cohesion over individuality.

“overall it’s a very minimal aesthetic, a very clean and modern look for victoria beckham. she wanted the hair to emphasize uniformity on the runway, which is why i pulled the hair away from the face and secured it with a basic black headband. in a way, this look is modernly classic,” says guido.

create the look:

  1. 1. apply redken satinwear 02 prepping blow dry lotion to damp hair from root to ends
  2. 2. using a paddle brush, blow dry hair away from the face
  3. 3. gather hair about one inch from the neck into a low pony and secure with elastic
  4. 4. finish with fashion work 12 versatile working spray to flatten any flyaways
  5. 5. place headband overhead and pull ponytail through

style with: tokyo drift – our sleek, japanese-insipred spring story is all about clean lines and polished presentation. finish the look with this low pony style for high impact.

downtown chic: rag & bone spring/summer 2014

guido kicked off new york fashion week with a fresh and more modern interpretation of the quintessential downtown chic look. guido created a simply, yet stylized look by juxtaposing a clean, shellacked finish on top with a more natural and soft finish throughout the ends.

“i wanted to take the rag & bone girl and give her a bit more style. by adding different textures and products in the hair and by using them a bit more extremely, i was able to create a modern element to this more natural, grunge look,” says guido.

create the look:

  1. 1. apply redken satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to damp hair from roots to ends
  2. 2. create a clean middle part
  3. 3. blow-dry hair straight until reaching mid-lengths
  4. 4. spray mid-lengths and ends with a little water, adding more redken satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion if needed. allow hair to air-dry for natural texture
  5. 5. apply redken forceful 23 super-strength finishing spray to the straight part to create a flat, clean and crisp look on top, making sure to eliminate fly-aways
  6. 6. use a dryer on top of head to set the hairspray and add shine

style with: graphic scenes, our modern monochromatic spring range

the trend: new-grunge

plaid, oversized shirts, denim and slouchy tees - the relaxed, grunge-inspired styles seen on both the northern hemisphere's fall fashion runways and the bodies of off-duty a-listers, is like a trip down memory lane for 90s kids. while the return of style trends from a bygone era is often met with hesitation from those who've lived through them before (been there, done that, got the nirvana t'shirt!), we think the 'neo-grunge' or 'new-grunge' trend is one we should all take note of - and so too says the september issue of vogue paris, which was wholly dedicated to this re-visited fashion movement.

taking its cues from the grunge style made famous by cobain and love in the 90s, our 'nevermind' spring fashion story could look right at home on the streets of seattle all those years ago, but with feminine checks, soft chambrays and modern digital floral prints, the 'nevermind' look is a grown-up, dressed-up and wearable take on the signature 90s look.

key look: the shirt

arguably the most recognisable symbol of pre-00s grunge style is the plaid, button-down shirt. the first time around, this was worn in mostly dark reds, blues or greys and defined by masculine, oversized shapes. today, the button down has evolved to incorporate a more feminine look, with soft checks in blush and muted tones and a mix of cotton and chambray fabrics.

our 'prize shirt' from the nevermind range is the perfect addition to a low-maintenence, off-duty spring wardrobe. style tip: wear it tied around your waist for that signature grunge effect!

key colour: grey marle

grunge's casual cool is sometimes best represented in a simple grey marle, one of the key colour stories from our nevermind range. this colour looks great in our relaxed tee options, including the nevermind tee - with a cute, flattering shape and embroidered  typographic; the pave sweat - a comfortable sweatshirt tee with leather look sleeves; and the hipster tee - a plain tee with the added 'sleeves' tied at the waist to give it that grungy 'nevermind' attitude.
