tell us a little about yourself and what you do?
i’m the founder and creative director of pompeii home, a homewares and furniture business based in auckland, new zealand. this fills my time with making candles, designing fine art prints and sourcing other beautiful pieces
how did your design journey begin?
i’ve been a creative since as long as i remember. i studied art and design through out high school and university, and have then gone on to work as a multidisciplinary designer across many different industries, in both new zealand and los angeles. i’ve always loved the world of design and if i’m not designing for my job, you’ll find me working on some form of passion project of my own
where do you find creative inspiration?
almost everywhere. i find creative inspiration from my everyday surroundings as well as keeping up with designers and artists around the world through instagram, books, and other media. visiting new places is also very important to me and is definitely when i feel most inspired. the architecture, design and culture in europe, to me, is unmatched. i love drawing ideas from the buildings, landscapes, and fashion in italy and france in particular
tell us a bit about the custom candle creation we collaborated on?
we worked together to create a candle that would incapsulate the style of both moochi and pompeii. this meant creating a candle that is not only elegant and minimalistic but adds a hint of luxury and edge to any home. the chosen twisted rope design really embodies all these factors
for scent, we went with one of pompeii's signature scents, coconut and fig. not only does fig feature as a key scent in moochi stores, it's also is my favourite for the summer time and the coconut twist reminds me of days spent at the beach; the perfect scent for the coming months
our custom packaging celebrates the year coming of a new year and a fresh start. keeping with our premium and minimalistic style, the packaging features a tonal design printed on natural textured paper
describe the synergy between moochi and pompeii, and why you think it’s a good fit?
bringing moochi and pompeii together has been a dream. the ethos and aesthetic of both brands go hand in hand. minimalism, luxury, and style are words that come to mind when thinking of both brands
what draws you to moochi and what do you look for in a good outfit?
i am very drawn to how effortless and cool moochi style is. i love the latest matching sets and bursts of colour or print. being a creative, expressing myself through what i wear is so important to me
why do you choose to wear moochi, how does it make you feel?
i always dress to my mood and truly feel my best when i’m wearing an outfit i love. i love how moochi has a range of pieces that make me feel effortlessly put together and ready to take on any day. some days I'll opt for one of the must-have blazers and style a tonal outfit for a polished look and feel. other days, i'll play with one of their vibrant colours or printed pieces, to boost my creative energy
what are your favourite pieces from palette five: mid tide, and why?
really do love it all! but if i had to choose, the hustle waistcoat and furthest pant would definitely be my go to. this set is so chic and such a great outfit to take you from day to night
my second favourite has to be the ombre geo sarong. it’s so versatile with the ability to be worn many different ways. plus, i’m in love with the colours and vibe of the prrint. this is definitely a summer staple for me
finally, what’s a quote you live by?
“the mind is everything. what you think, you become”
