highlighting the people, places, inspirations and musings behind what makes moochi, we bring you my moochi style, with symone tafuna'i

a commanding presence with an unmistakable sense of purpose, symone tafuna'i brings a captivating power, poise and authenticity to everything she does. as a competitive sprinter, she’s no stranger to discipline, performance and high impact environments; qualities that inform not only her athletic career, but her broader work as a creative and advocate. off the track, she champions accessibility in sport and fashion and actively works to uplift pasifika and māori talent, creating space for others to thrive

for symone, style is more than surface. it’s a tool for self expression, a way to honour her heritage, and a reflection of how she chooses to move through the world. her wardrobe is considered yet intuitive, built on pieces that hold quiet strength and fluidity, much like moochi’s own design philosophy

tell us about yourself
I’m a sprinter, social media reporter and a model. I have been sprinting since the age of three, and during my track career I have had the privilege of representing new zealand several times. my favourite highlight so far was when I was a member and captain of the women’s 4x100m world junior relay team in 2016

in addition to sprinting, I balance being a social media reporter. I just recently finished doing red carpet interviews at the aotearoa music awards. I’ve also been lucky enough to report at many sporting games like the warriors, super rugby and the all blacks etc. I also covered the Paris olympic games last year which was a huge highlight, as both a reporter and an athlete

Tell us about your journey with fashion
my fashion journey has been all about trial and error. I wear what feels right and comfortable. my wardrobe is versatile with good basics like jeans and tees, mixed with statement pieces like coats and accessories. recently, I have started dabbling in modelling as I wanted a new challenge for myself, and I’m excited for what’s next with that. representation means everything to me. as a samoan woman, I carry my culture with pride in every space; on track, on camera, or just living life. I’m humbled by those who paved the way and want to do the same for others

what keeps to inspired and motivated as an athlete and presenter?
the woman in my life keep me inspired and motivated in whatever areas I am working in. my sister and mum in particular, have mentored and shaped me into the woman I am today. when I tell them about my goals, they respond with, “okay, so what can we do to help you get there?” they’re always in my corner, cheering me on

what draws you to moochi and how does the brand align with your lifestyle?
what draws me to moochi isn’t just the stylish pieces. every time I wear moochi, I feel like “that girl.” the comfort is unmatched, and I love how versatile the pieces are. they’re perfect for both day and night, without ever compromising on style

what does style mean to you? how does it play a part in your every day?
style means wearing whatever you want and whatever makes you feel good. if you can wear it with pride then you’re good to go! I reach for pieces that are both fun and functional, that can carry me through such a varying day to day schedule without too much thought and fuss
